The Police Department currently investigates citizen complaints about police officer conduct, makes a determination, and advises the complaining party of the disposition. Under the new Community Police Review Advisory Board policy and bylaws, a complaining party who is dissatisfied with this disposition may request a review of the investigation by the seven-member Community Police Review Board. The Review Advisory Board will examine all officer-involved fatal shootings, as well as review traffic stop data and allegations of racial or other bias against individuals.

Corvallis police officers and community groups provided input into the Board's creation. A series of public forums were held on whether a board should be established and if so, how it would operate. The Review Advisory Board will not create Police Department policy or determine discipline. Rather, it will serve as a citizen-based accessible process for review of complaints and certain other matters. The goal of the Board is to build trust and communication between the Police Department and residents. In April 2007, the City Council unanimously approved the by-laws and operating rules of a new Community Police Review Advisory Board and adopted anordinance establishing the Board's creation.

Copies of minutes from the Community Police Review Advisory Board are available through the links below. The Board must approve the minutes before they are posted. The minutes are in PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.
